HOPE BEGINS HERE
Our Philosophy on Treating Eating Disorders
At The Center, we realize the debilitating impact that eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, compulsive overeating, and binge eating disorder have on an individual's life. Whether you or someone you love is living a life feeling powerless because of food related issues, we want to communicate to you that- There is Hope!
With 24 years of experience working with literally thousands of individuals, both male and female, we believe that people living in bondage to eating disorders can experience freedom that is life changing and life enduring.
Our team approach to treating anorexia, bulimia, compulsive eating, and binge eating disorder includes individual and group counseling, as well as nutritional education, medical care by our staff physician (or for those who are currently working with a physician, we will gladly work in conjunction with them) and physical care based on each client's individual needs.
Anybody that is suffering from an eating disorder such as anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive overeating needs to have unconditional love, acceptance and forgiveness. They also need to learn how to forgive themselves, and forgive others that may have abused or harmed them. We do not believe force will change those suffering from eating disorders. Force does not work. It can drive the eating disorder deeper and deeper. Instead of force, we at The Center, provide an atmosphere of acceptance where change can take place. We look beyond the eating disorder and reach into the person's heart and see them as a person who needs love and acceptance. Click here to read some testimonials of past clients.
Some treatment programs believe they cannot help those suffering from eating disorders who do not want to change. At The Center for Counseling & Health Resources, Inc. our philosophy is different. Our counselors see themselves as helpers who take on the initial responsibility for the whole treatment program in order to reach in and capture those in the grip of an eating disorder. They provide their client a 'life preserver' and make sure their clients get it on and help them get out of the grasp of their disease. As we provide them with an atmosphere of unconditional love and acceptance, our clients are able to be honest about their condition and be able to receive the help they need.
Our philosophy is that you must treat the whole person-Mental, Emotional, Physical, Relational, and Spiritual. Most individuals who have an eating disorder will experience anger, fear, and guilt in their lives. Also, they normally experience health problems because of their eating habits. To help you to overcome your eating disorder and to improve the physical health of your body, The Center has worked with biochemists to manufacture Specialized Nutritional Formulas specifically for those suffering with an eating disorder. We also help individuals to get in touch with the spiritual side of their life.
There is Hope despite the lies of the pro anorexia sites. There is healing for all eating disorders - anorexia and bulimia, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, compulsive overeating, and binge eating disorder.
Eating Disorders are serious emotional and physical problems that can have life-threatening consequences for females and males.
Eating Disorders -- such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder -- include extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues
ANOREXIA NERVOSA
is characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss.
Symptoms include:
- Refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for height, body type, age, and activity level
- Intense fear of weight gain or being “fat”
- Feeling “fat” or overweight despite dramatic weight loss
- Loss of menstrual periods
- Extreme concern with body weight and shape

BULIMIA NERVOSA
is characterized by a secretive cycle of binge eating followed by purging. Bulimia includes eating large amounts of food--more than most people would eat in one meal--in short periods of time, then getting rid of the food and calories through vomiting, laxative abuse, or over-exercising.
Symptoms include:
- Repeated episodes of bingeing and purging
- Feeling out of control during a binge and eating beyond the point of comfortable fullness
- Purging after a binge, (typically by self-induced vomiting, abuse of laxatives, diet pills and/or diuretics, excessive exercise, or fasting)
- Frequent dieting
- Extreme concern with body weight and shape
BINGE EATING DISORDER (also known as COMPULSIVE OVEREATING)
is characterized primarily by periods of uncontrolled, impulsive, or continuous eating beyond the point of feeling comfortably full. While there is no purging, there may be sporadic fasts or repetitive diets and often feelings of shame or self-hatred after a binge. People who overeat compulsively may struggle with anxiety, depression, and loneliness, which can contribute to their unhealthy episodes of binge eating. Body weight may vary from normal to mild, moderate, or severe obesity.
